Bengkulu Province

Bengkulu Province is situated at southwest coast of sumatera island, stretching from 2⁰ 16’ – 3⁰ 31’ south latitude and 101⁰ 1’ – 103⁰ 31’ east longitude. On the north, Bengkulu province border on west sumatera province , and on the south it borders on Indian ocean and lampung province. It borders on Indian ocean on the western, and on the east border on jambi province and south sumatera province. The population of Bengkulu province is more or less 1,6 million spreading over 10 regencies/town that is mukomuko regency, north Bengkulu regency, south Bengkulu regency, kaur regency, seluma regency, kepahiang regency, rejang lebong regency, lebong regency, central Bengkulu regency and Bengkulu city. The population inhabit and become native people of Bengkulu province is tribe of serawai, tribe of rejang, tribe of melayu, tribe of mukomuko, tribe of pekal, tribe of enggano, pasemah, lembak and kaur. Bengkulu province consists of lowland in the south and highlands in the west. The eastern part of highlands consisting of mountainous and hilly are with bukit barisan range. It has cold air and so various interesting and unique natural phenomenon like cauldron of volcanoes, hot spring water, waterfalls, lake, the seven colour craters. The western part is lowlands with alluvial contour and coastal land. The west part of this area represent lowland with casuarina tree vegetation range out to alongside white sandy coastal with coastline length more than 525 km. The territorial water area of Bengkulu with isles in it like tikus isle, mego isle and enggano island representing external island of regional boundary of Indonesia. Most of Bengkulu province is covered by tropical rain forest where its natural charm rival those any others part of this huge island. There are many flora and fauna such as, orchid, kibut flower (1-1,5m), rafflesia flower (the biggest flower in world with diameter 1,5m). Tiger of sumatera, elephant of sumatera, rhinoceros of sumatera, bear honey, and elephant of sumatera have succeeded conservated in seblat elephant conservation center. The capital of Bengkulu province is an old coastal town having many British inheritance for example fort Marlborough, Thomas Parr monument, Hamilton monument and European cemetery. On the other side, Bengkulu has an important role toward the history of Indonesia nation. There are many Indonesia commander those are isolated by colonizer in Bengkulu, likely : Sentot Alibasya, Soekarno which later then become the first President of Indonesia, and Fatmawati Soekarno as first lady. In 18s century, Bengkulu province becoming the part of government of England in Indonesia led by Governor General Sir Thomas Stanford Raffles who found the biggest flower of world with diameter more or less 1,5 metre. The flower is called “Rafflesia Arnoldy” that pursuant the name of its discoverer that name are Raffles and Dr. Arnoldy (botanical expert). As capital of Bengkulu province, Bengkulu city to develop his coastal area as a main tourism attraction with especial characteristic is white sandy coastline fringed with Casuarina trees.
